What to Check
With vehicle at ride height, grab each end link and attempt to move it vertically. Any clunk or free play indicates worn bushings or a failed ball joint. Inspect for broken or missing hardware.
What to Say to the Customer
"Your sway bar links are [good / showing wear]. On your vehicle, these connect the sway bar to the control arms — they're what keep the body roll in check in corners. Worn links make the car feel loose and less composed."
Upsell Trigger
If they're clinking or have play: "I can feel that one — there's a clunk coming from the end link. It's not dangerous yet, but the part is inexpensive and the labor is minimal. This is a good one to check off while we're already addressing the [primary repair]."
Common Missed
Poly end link bushings that look fine but are hardened and no longer compliant. The bushing looks intact but transmits noise directly. A careful tap test with a screwdriver handle helps isolate this.
