What to Check
Inspect all visible steel lines for rust, kinks, or rubbing damage. Inspect rubber flex hoses for cracks, bulge, or hardening. Look for signs of leaking at any connection.
What to Say to the Customer
"The brake lines look good — no rust, no leak points. I'll note they've been inspected."
Upsell Trigger
If lines show any age or weather exposure: "I'll keep an eye on these — rubber brake hoses degrade over time and most shops don't inspect them. If we ever need to replace one, doing it preemptively is a lot cheaper than a brake failure."
Common Missed
Flex hose HPV (high pressure vessel) swelling from internal fluid degradation. External appearance is fine but the hose balloons internally, creating a dangerous soft pedal. Feel for a spongeous pedal.
